Enter and View Report: Stonehaven Care Home

Objective: Healthwatch Lincolnshire aimed to incorporate the perspectives of Care Home Residents, seeking their views on health and care services through Enter and View Visits.

Methodology:

• Utilised a Resident and Staff Survey.Healthwatch Representatives, including an Involvement Officer and two Authorised Representatives, visited Care Homes to engage with Residents.
• Residents voluntarily participated in interviews, with their discussions recorded on the Resident Survey. Staff independently completed surveys.

Findings/Observations:

• Residents felt safe, respected, and well cared for, rating the Care Home highly.
• Communication with staff was praised, and concerns could be easily raised.
• Relatives appreciated staff support, involvement, and open visitation policies.
• Services like hairdressing, chiropody, and medical care were accessible and satisfactory.
• Activities were enjoyed, fostering a sense of community and engagement.
• Residents expressed desires to maintain independence but appreciated the safety and care provided by the Home.

Staff Feedback:

• Positive interactions observed between staff and Residents, emphasizing dignity and respect.
• Recruitment and staff development were highlighted as crucial, with challenges including salary and workload.
• Staff suggested improvements in attitudes towards elderly care and better communication during hospital discharge processes.

Recommendations:

• Address storage space to prevent hazards and ensure accessibility.
• Manage background noise to support Residents with Alzheimer’s/Dementia.
• Continuously promote and maintain high standards of person-centered care and staff professionalism.

Service Provider Response:

• The Home Care Manager acknowledged the report's findings and expressed consent for publication.

This report underscores the commendable care provided while offering actionable insights for enhancing resident experiences and staff support within Care Homes.
