East Lincolnshire sleep service engagement exercise
United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust (ULHT) are reviewing the provision of sleep and sleep apnoea services by the NHS in the East of Lincolnshire, and they want to hear from you!
People from across the Boston and East coast area are being encouraged to give their views to help shape the future of sleep services in their area.
ULHT is looking to re-procure it’s sleep service and the East of Lincolnshire, to ensure it is fit for the future and meets the needs of the local population.
This service mainly treats patients with obstructive sleep apnoea, a condition that occurs when an individual’s breathing during sleep is periodically interrupted by closure of the upper airway (pharynx) for between 10 and about 45 seconds. Partial obstruction of the upper airway results in periods of reduced ventilation. This condition can result in excessive daytime sleepiness, significantly impairs quality of life and can be severe enough to affect cognitive function, as well as contributing to vascular and cardiovascular diseases.
It is estimated that this condition affects 2–4% of middle-aged males and up to 2% of adult females, and therefore it is vital that the diagnostic and support services that we provide for this condition are effective, efficient and meet the needs of our local population.
Please invite ULHT to come along to discuss this with you or your patient group, or to access the survey in an alternative format, by contacting communications@ulh.nhs.uk or calling (01522) 573986.
This engagement exercise runs until Friday 4 October 2024, and all feedback will used to help shape a service specification to procure the future sleep service for the people of East Lincolnshire.
