Volunteering - it’s the Word! (June)
June is a special month for all volunteers. It’s Volunteer Week from 1-7 June, when we celebrate all our amazing volunteers and hold events to recognise the benefit they bring and how they make a difference to others by their selflessness. Many organisations couldn’t do what they do without volunteers and it’s great to recognise what they give and to show them how much they are appreciated.
90% of volunteers feel they are making a difference through their volunteering (NCVO Time Well Spent January 2019), knowing that you are giving something back to your community feels good and there are many ways you can do this.
In many ways: volunteering gives me an opportunity to meet new people; go to places I would not otherwise have gone; learn new skills or maintain skills; it challenges me to do different activities, improving confidence; it gives me a sense of being useful and part of a community, and gets me out of doing housework!
We know volunteers make a huge difference to a wide range of organisations. Our volunteers reach out to the public in Lincolnshire, gathering their views and making them heard by the people that provide services. We share our results and findings with our volunteers so they can see how they are making a difference. With support and appreciation the volunteer journey can be incredibly satisfying. Look out for events near you, celebrating the joys of volunteering – join over 15.2 million people in the UK who formally volunteer at least once a month – that’s a big number and one that’s definitely worth celebrating.
